The Struggle of Mankind At the dawn of humanity, there was struggle. The act of struggle went on for 2000 years. Humanity would be locked in a constant battle for the opportunity to thrive, being stifled by a multitude of oppositions. The very planet it’s self was the first to rise in opposition to humanity, with the ground opening, swallowing tribes whole and regurgitating spouts of flaming magma. The seas would eat away at the peoples that lived near them, sweeping out man, woman and children, for the sea would not discriminate in its hunger. Some trees and plants would become poisonous and cause harm to the humans in an attempt to prolong their lives in the dirt. After a time, the elements would calm and submit to a treaty with humanity. It was at this time that the first echos of life outside of humanity revealed itself, for all other beings had hidden from the ravaging of the planet’s birthing pangs. This was known as The Struggle of Mankind. Humanity thought themselves to be a lonely creature, until the beasts of the world arrived. Many giant beasts would start to wander the large continent that would come to be known as Eldslunds, some of which sought to make war with humanity, The first of these being the Skept. The Skept were larger than humans, towering a torso-length above them. Their skin was dark green in color, and covered in hard, finely knit scales. Small tufts of fibrous hairs decorated their bodies in various simian areas. Their faces were stretched, working in an elongated shape from crown to mouth, which ended in a beak-like orifice. Their eyes would blaze a bright orange in the sunlight, and at night in the reflection of the torches the humans would light to see in the dark. The primitive humans were outmatched by the sheer strength of the Skept, but after 200 years of warring with the Skept, the humans prevailed. With the aid of minuet advancements in tools, humanity was successful in driving back the Skept to the caves and holes in the planet that they arose from. The Dwarves were also revealed to humanity during The Struggle, as were the Elves and Orcs. At the time of humanity’s driving back of the Skept, the Dwarves suffered. The Second Dwarven War was started at the retreat of the Skept from the surface. The Dwarves and the Skept were in constant tribulations over dominion of the Underhearth, and the Dwarves had pushed the Skept from their subterranean world, only for them to return a short 200 years later. The Dwarves would never fully forgive humanity for being the catalyst of the Second Dwarven War. After 10 years of grueling wars of each trying to completely eradicate the other, the Dwarves would emerge victorious and ready to search the surface. The Dwarves would dwell in higher Eldslunds and the Elves dwelt in the Grandwoods and the Orcs would wander. After the emergence of the grand races and their settling into place, the second age of humanity would begin. The grand races discovered ways to create new life. The Elves lived in nature and had an intimate relationship with it. They encouraged the growth of animals into smarter beings, known as Fyelings, and sewed them across the world. The Orcs, amongst their wandering of the world, began to situate themselves in the higher Eldslunds, finding the ashen wasteland to be hospitable. This land was still ravaged by the planet’s birthing pangs, and was in the early stage of formation of life. The Orcs would spill blood of their own during rituals and it was this tainted grounds that would form the goblins of all kinds, of which the Orcs would send out into the lands. The Dwarves found home in the massive mountain range of higher Eldslunds and their time was spent fortifying against the Skept, in hopes of never having to struggle against them again. The Trickling of Knowledge It was during the second age known as the Trickling of Knowledge, that humanity began to separate and build villages and towns, with the beginning of a hierarchical system coming into place. Dealings with the other races and an understanding of the world they were living in was also taking place at this time. The next adversary for humanity was one of combination. Two lesser creatures that were created during The Struggle, through the ravaging of the planet, were the Cemolatophs and the Haarvangenër. The Cemolatophs dwelt in the waters of the world. They were large, and something between an aquatic creature and a man. The Haarvangenër were a race of creatures that resembled the skeleton of a bird, but who’s bones were light and almost see through. They would hide in fields of grass and wheat, and hunt what would come into those fields. These two creatures formed a symbiotic relationship, feeding on the humans that would gather near rivers or ocean, and hunt them in their fields. Though these creatures were not fully minded as humanity, they were still smart enough to plan this assault on mankind, making it ever difficult to establish stable villages. After 500 years the issue of the Cemolatophs and Haarvangenër was brought under control, with humanity finally finding ways to oppose and thwart them. The Triumph of Mankind The third era of humanity was known as The Triumph of Mankind, due to their success over the seemingly impossible enemy; the dragons. The Skept, in their defeat by the Dwarves, were pushed back to the depths of the underhearth, to the center of the planet. In their anger, they spent their time constructing rituals and using things that they did not fully understand. These rituals harnessed the ruthless heat from the depth of the planet and gave it a physical form in the shape of dragons. After the construction of the dragons, the Skept rose from the depths of the planet with their many dragons in tow, beseeching the land and wreaking havoc on those who wronged them. The first to experience the wrath of the dragons was the Elves. The Elves had constructed a temple in the highest tree of the Grandwoods and it was called Gurentunthop in the human tongue. This was their main place of gathering and was held in high regard across the land. The Skept directed one of their dragons by the name of Morodenithrall to attack this temple, being that it was one of the most noticeable places in the land. These dragons would spit waves of compressed air and sound at such a velocity that it would melt and evaporate whatever it breathed its breath upon. This is what happened at Gurentunthop, with the dragon, Morodenithrall, evaporating the Elven temple and it’s occupants. The Skept poured their dragons across the land, with all becoming plagued by the terrifying creatures. It was this time that the dragons and the Skept walked freely across the surface of the planet, waging wars against the grand races. This went on for 1000 years. At the creation of the dragons there were seven, and they were called the Sept of the Craig, being from the deepest reaches of the planet. Their names were Morodenithrall, Sephthrall, Bengrathrall, Zephtrall, Kruscruthrall, Pnchnethrall, and Thranuldulth, with Thranuldulth being the first dragon and to have named the others. The title of thrall was given to each of the sibling of Thranuldulth as a title of their superiority over the simple creatures of the planet. Each of the seven dragon were vile and feral being in the beginnings of their lives, following whatever orders that the Skept gave them. After several hundred years though, the dragons would gain knowledge and wisdom, while becoming very self-centered beings, rupturing from the control of their masters and receding to their caves and keeps. From those seven descended all other dragons, the seven however felt no need to create more dragons until the Humans’ discovery of the Skilth. It was during humanity’s biggest struggle that they adapted in a new way. A man was born by the name of Cirwyn. As he aged, he began to realize that he experienced the world in a way that was different than others. At first it was small things. Glimpses of things that no one else saw, feelings of intense emotions in places with much history stored away and an intense connection with nature. Cirwyn also noticed that he aged significantly slower than others, and it was these differences that led him to search. He would search the continent in hopes of understanding what made him different. His search eventually led him to the rumors of the Skept and their creation of the dragons. No one knew exactly how they came to be, but people would speculate at their creations being an impossible feat. It was during Cirwyn’s time serving in a war band that he was able to speak directly to the Skept that he was warring against. Through this he discovered an inkling of the truth, and began experimenting. After years of experimenting, Cirwyn discovered the existence of what came to be known as the Skilth. The Skilth is the source of life and place where all death collects. It is simultaneously a source of energy and plain of existence. Cirwyn discovered the Skilth at age 346 and realized that is was this energy, this other plain of existence that he was connected to. Cirwyn would then seek out those like him and title them wizards, training them in the understanding and using of the Skilth. It was Cirwyn’ understanding of the Skilth that allowed mankind the tools to rend dragons back to the plains that the rested in before manifesting in the physical realm. It was the Skept’s meddling in the natural world that led to their discovery of the Skilth and puller foreword the spirits of fire, encapsulating them in the physical forms of dragons. Cirwyn gifted the king of Eldslunds, that being the kings of Man, Dwarves, Elves and Orcs a sword that was crafted with the essence of the world, known as Sil’vir. It with one of these blades that the king of mankind, Skorlgräd, slew the dragon Morodenithrall, solidifying a companionship between the elves and mankind. At the slaying of their sibling, the Sept of the Craig began the creation of lesser dragons called Wyverns, fearing that their rule of the land might be coming to an end. The war of the Craig Kings began, and by the end of the war the dragons were forced into hiding or death. Now this is why this age is called the Triumph of Mankind.
