The Battle of Rogmenthop

by Spife

/
1.
Long ago, In the land of Eldslunds, there was a boy who suffered a terrible accident. The accident left him whole no longer, part of himself had be replaced by something malignant and evil. The Nest is what they called it, a tumor like thing that afflicted the boy. After a time that boy, twisted by the entity that had attached itself to him, had grown into a fierce warlord that terrorized the land. His body had been changed and deformed to something of unnatural sized and ferocity and his reign of terror had begun.
2.
The kingdom of Graniswedth called a meeting, for Graniswedth was the leading kingdom of Eldslunds. A decision had to be made on what to do to protect the realm, for the warlord, Balthor of the Nest, was approaching with violent fervor.
3.
King Lercel declared that they had lost enough men to the monster that approaches. The only option left for the king to choose was to face Balthor on the battlefield. The court responded in dismay and anguish, pleading for the king not to go, but truly, the people knew that there was no other option.
4.
What once was a boy was now Balthor of the Nest. The creature had been tearing through the towns and their defenses for 2 years. Whatever humanity was left in Balthor was buried so deep that it would be impossible for his true self to stop anything that would happen. The singular beast marching on the kingdom of Graniswedth.
5.
King Lercel arrived at the Rogmenthop, where the men of Graniswedth had slain by Balthor. Balthor, in the midst of a terrible scene of destruction, turns to face King Lercel and the battle began. King Lercel, the man who was the sole protector of Graniswedth, was seemingly evenly matched. The battle was rough and the terrain matched it. Rogmenthop was a tower surrounded by a desolate plane with jagged rocks jutting out of the earth. This is where the battle was taking place.
6.
The battle wore on for hours with just the two of them in the clash. King Lercel was starting to weaken, but so was Balthor, and King Lercel recognized that. In a moment of desperation, the king struck when Balthor’s guard was open. His blade pierced Balthor’s side, but in that very moment Balthor saw an opportunity and seized it. His blade sunk into the king’s chest. Both men dropped to their knees, exhausted from the battle they had been warring, it seemed that their time had come. For the first time in many years, the boy that had been pushed to the back of his own mind shown through. A tear rolled down his cheek and the words “ I am so sorry” left his lips as he began to collapse to the ground. The wounded King knelt and caught him and said “ I am sorry I was not in time to help.” It was at this moment that both the men were freed from their suffering, a mutual exchange of life. The scene of the Good King Lercel kneeling on the ground clutching the poor boy, who’s mass had now forsaken him has become a scene of somber glory to the land of Eldslunds.
